A massive landslide wiped out the village of Malin located at 110 km from Pune city, in
the Western Ghats on July 30. Mound of mud and debris that came down from a
nearby hillock, swallowed up almost the entire tribal village of around 50 families.
Due to the remoteness of the village, the tragedy came to light only when the driver of the first state transport bus reached the village a little after 7.30 am to find it uprooted. Final death toll was 153 when the rescue operation was stopped and around 100 people were missing.

On August 18, 2008, the Kosi River broke through a man-made embankment in Nepal.
The flooding was massive and engulfed half the neighbouring state of Bihar in India. The
prime minister declared it a national calamity.
According to the World Health Organization, 3.3 million people in 1,850 villages were affected, with one million rendered homeless. Crops were devastated and there was no drinking water. In the worst-affected regions, only treetops were visible above the waterline.

The Maharashtra floods of 2005 refers to the flooding of many parts of the state, including large areas of the metropolis Mumbai, in which at least 5,000 people died. It occurred just one month after similar flooding in Gujarat.
The term 26 July, now is, in context always used for the day when the city of Mumbai came to a standstill. The floods were caused by the eighth heaviest ever recorded 24-hour rainfall figure of 994 mm.

The war took place between May and July of 1999 in Jammu and Kashmir's Kargil district.
The Army declared the mission successful on July 26, 1999; since then the day has been celebrated annually as Kargil Vijay Diwas.

Latur earthquake was one of the deadliest earthquakes Maharashtra has seen till date. The earthquake struck at about 3.56 am on September 30, 1993. In the intraplate earthquake about 52 villages were destroyed, over 30,000 were injured and approximately 10,000 were killed.
The earthquake left a huge hollow at Killari, which was also the epicentre, remains in place till date.

On 12th July, 1961, Panshet dam in Pune collapsed , So there was a flood in Pune. About 1,000 people died in the floods. Hundreds of people were injured and became homeless.
The Sakal Relief Fund collected funds for the help of people who were residing in floodaffected areas, and immediately helped.
